Porcha D. Wafford, LSW
Known to most as Maati. She is a collector of words and of things felt and imagined. Her work experiments with spiritual sovereignty, justice, and love. She is most proud of her writing when it is activated by nature, when her hands and feet can get muddy, and when whatever makes the page or presentation is steeped in sensorial and spiritual communion. Maati aims to channel curiosity, receptivity, and ritual-making in everything she does. This aim keeps her in a highly engaged conversation with her shadows and wholeness.
As an equity practitioner and coach, Maati designs and delivers professional development for educators and administrators specific to justice and anti-bias, antiracist (ABAR) education. Maati advocates for equity by creating avenues for the coexistence of science, spirit & social justice. Her leadership focuses on building trust by engaging in radical honesty and authentic conversations and actions. She is a writer, master's level social worker, liberation worker, and spirit-led educator who fiercely infuses critical consciousness and a sincere love of learning into her interactions with children, parents, and educational leaders. For nearly two decades, Maati has created brave spaces for people to expand, build, and create more justice worldwide. She firmly believes in divine intelligence and understands that we all sit at the very center of that space!
Willed radiance is how she describes the purpose of her writing and equity leadership. Simultaneously, sword and shield, the route and final destination, her writing practice, and leadership explore the daily toils of one propelled by a quest for self-refinement. Perhaps it’s even a joyous obsession; she can own that! Maati is innately curious about what the most profound spiritual connection looks like and how it manifests uniquely for each individual.
